You’ve applied for your driving licence, and now you’re eagerly waiting for it to arrive. It's completely normal to feel a bit anxious! The good news is, you don't have to wait by the mailbox. You can easily and quickly check your DL status online from the comfort of your home. This guide will walk you through the steps, whether you've just applied, lost your licence, or simply need a digital copy.
How to Check Driving Licence Application Status Online
Checking your licence status is a straightforward process thanks to the government's official Parivahan website. All you need is your application number and date of birth.
Visit the Official Parivahan Website: Head over to sarathi.parivahan.gov.in. This is the one-stop government portal for all driving licence services.
Select Your State: On the homepage, you’ll see a list of states. Choose the state where you applied for your driving licence.
Find "Application Status": Once the state-specific page loads, look for the "Application Status" option. It's usually located on the top menu bar or in a side menu.
Enter Your Details: You will be prompted to enter your Application Number, your Date of Birth, and a Captcha code for verification.
Submit and View: Click the "Submit" button. Your current DL status will be displayed, showing you if it's under processing, approved, dispatched, or has any issues.
This online method is the quickest way to get an update without having to visit the RTO in person.
Additionally, you can check your DL status on the Parivahan portal by entering your Driving Licence Number, Date of Birth, and Verification Code - Click to Check Status.
What to Do If You've Lost Your Driving Licence
Losing your physical driving licence can be stressful, but getting a duplicate is easier than you think. A digital copy can be very helpful during this time.
Getting a Digital DL Copy
Before you apply for a duplicate, you can get a digital copy of your driving licence. The mParivahan app and DigiLocker are officially recognized and legally valid across India.
mParivahan App: Download the app, register with your mobile number, and link your DL to create a virtual driving licence.
DigiLocker: Sign up with your Aadhaar number and you can fetch and store a digital copy of your DL directly from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
Applying for a Duplicate Driving Licence
To get a new physical copy, you’ll need to apply for a duplicate DL. The process usually involves:
Filing a First Information Report (FIR) at the nearest police station to report the loss.
Visiting the RTO or Applying online with the FIR copy and other required documents.
